Our commitment to the environment & ethical trading
Our Social and Environmental Policy
Here at J W Myers Monumental Masons we understand the importance our company has on the environment and the need to protect the working rights and safety of the people who produce and process the products that we sell.
We recognise that we sell a resource hungry product, sourced from countries that are less regulated than the UK, and thus are committed to make sure that we use products that have the least environmental impact and as positive a social impact on the world as possible.
While many of our stones are globally sourced, and we understand that imported stones have their part to play in the environment, we are equally sympathetic to stone sustainability in the UK. While a higher level of resources may initially need to be invested into importing stone, it is also worth remembering that the UK has limited stone resources. These will not last forever, and the use of long lasting, value for money imported stone might allow the UK to prolong our own dwindling reserves for more precious areas of historical value.
Therefore our products are bought from suppliers and companies who have the same beliefs as us and responsibly source their products and monitor the working rights and safety of the people who produce and process the products they sell, while recognising and respecting the cultural and legal differences found throughout the world.
Our carbon footprint is important to us and we are committed to finding ways in which we can reduce our impact on the environment. We operate in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and strive to use pollution prevention and environmental best practices.
We promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner and are committed to taking the following actions;
To minimise our waste, and reuse and recycle the resources consumed by our business wherever practical.
To correctly dispose of products unable to be recycled.
To limit the use of paperwork wherever possible, using telephone and email for correspondence.
To minimise energy and water use within our buildings and processes in order to conserve supplies and minimise the consumption of natural resources.
As far as is possible, purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment.
Keep our energy usage low, and investigate further energy saving opportunities.
To minimise journeys by planning our work effectively, sharing vehicles, and encouraging suppliers to organise transport of large loads to avoid unnecessary journeys.
We aim to regularly review our policy and seek to reduce our impact each year.
